Part of the Moray Firth coastal route, this 60-mile ride is a wonderful sample of the countryside east of Inverness. Where else but Scotland’s Highlands can you ride with beautiful farmland on one side of you and rugged coastline the other?
The route begins in Inverness, capital of the Highlands. Leave the city on the A96, a well-made and reasonably flat road that’s perfect for motorcyclists of all abilities and with plenty of B roads running off it for detours towards the coast. Try the B9006 to Fort George, an 18th century military fort with wonderful views across the water.
Towards the Sea
At Fochabers, you can choose whether to take the coast road towards the traditional Scottish resort of Buckie or the larger A98. Whichever way you get to Cullen, you shouldn’t leave without first sampling Cullen Skink – the famous fish broth that takes its name from the town – and enjoying its beautiful sheltered beach.
