This lovely rural ride through South Lanarkshire and East Ayrshire offers rolling hills and fast, sweeping bends. It’s the perfect day trip for Glasgow-based motorcyclists who want a wee spin out to the coast.

Rural East Ayrshire

The picturesque Scottish motorcycle route starts in Muirkirk, a small town on the banks of the River Ayr. Following the A70 Muirkirk Road it doesn’t take long before you start winding your way through quiet farmland and open hills. Increase your turning circle to extend your views around the many sweeping bends.

Seaside refuel

On reaching the beach town of Ayr, don’t forget to stop for some quintessential seaside fish and chips – there’s no shortage of choice – before heading north towards Troon. The roads between Ayr and Troon enjoy blissful views of Scotland’s west coast and some of the many links courses situated in this golfing paradise.

Be prepared

Naturally you should check your tyres, oil and fuel before any big trip. And it’s useful to carry a map, have an air compressor for a puncture.
