This V-shaped motorcycling route at the very north of Scotland takes in the pretty Highland villages and hamlets of Tongue, Altnahara, Lairg and Overscraig. The quiet roads are a wonderful way to come inland from the popular North Coast 500 route.
Begin at Bettyhill
This Scottish motorcycle route starts in the village of Bettyhill, which looks over the magnificent Torrisdale Bay. Head south on the A836, through the coastal village of Tongue and inland. Here the arresting beaches of Caithness and Sutherland give way to mesmerising, expansive lochs.
A sharp right
Just before Lairg, take a pronounced right onto the A838 where the scenery flattens. An attraction of this route is its quiet single-track roads, so make use of the passing places and take extra care when overtaking. On a clear day, the long stretches that border Loch Shin offer great visibility where you can really open your engine.
